Probably the hardest, tiresome and the most irritating discipline, a very familiar word - Wait. Dictionary defines it 'to stay in place in expectation of'. Now, in that definition there is a determinate word some would hope and some would hate, the word expectation. These clichés are pretty synonymous, they are somehow inseparable because they often go together. But the truth is, if we are to look at it, specifically in God's perspective, they are two different pictures.

'Singleness, the longing and all the waiting, when is this going to end? when will I meet my life-time partner?' You have probably heard that question, or you may have asked that kind of question yourself. These and-the-like questions have been overly asked from generations to generations of people who have waited and hoped for marriage. Yet they thought they were asking the right questions. The truth is, what they've been doing and manifesting is from another word called, desperation. On the contrary, Waiting is an attitude, an attitude that cannot be learned or earned overnight. It is so hard a process, that some desperately jump into some foolish conclusions that resulted into inevitable consequences.

In this Mini-Article we will discuss simple Biblical Principles of Waiting. These principles are so basic you might have came across on reading or meditating on this one. But in this article, we will utilize these principles in a different perspective, in the perspective of waiting for that special, desired, someone.

I. 'SEEK YE FIRST' (Matthew 6:33)

From the title itself, it is already non-arguable. To do number one is to SEEK.  Now what to seek? seek a man? seek a woman? Oh no, if you're getting it from the Bible, there is more to seek than these things. Matthew 6:33 quotes 'But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.' What are we to seek? Primarily, we are to seek godly, upright and heavenly concerns before God will add all these things to us. While waiting, why not seek God First? There is no harm in waiting because good things come to those who wait.

Lamentations 3:25
The LORD is good to those whose hope is in Him, to the one who seeks Him.

II. 'SET YOUR AFFECTION' (Colossians 3:2)

While on the process of seeking, another action is to be done. To do number two is to SET.  And this has nothing to do with setting your standard for an ideal person. You can have all the time setting your own, ego-centric standards for a perfect partner yet at the end you may never find it, worst yet, it could be the exact opposite of the one you wanted. At the end you may say, after all these years, what I have been looking for is different from what God has prepared for me.

This is a different 'setting', Colossians 3:2 says, 'Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth'. You might find the verse unapplicable on waiting, but setting your affection on things above will keep you busy on doing His will than waiting in desperation and depression using your own way. Remember, God has His own time plan, what's ours is to follow because we do not know what is ahead. The thing that we know of is that God hears our every whispered prayer, and He knows when and how to answer it not for the destruction of our hearts, but for the betterment of our future. GOD IS NOT A KILL JOY.

When ours are interrupted, His are not. His plans are proceeding exactly as scheduled, moving us always (including those minutes or hours or years which seem most useless or wasted or unendurable) "toward the goal of true maturity".- Elisabeth Elliot

In Conclusion, the questions still stand, WHO?-HOW?-WHERE?-WHEN?-WHAT? Indeed waiting is really a hard thing to do. The irony of doing nothing yet it somehow wearies our soul, dries our heart, and sips out our strength. In the waiting process, instead of saying, I deserve a worthy person, be the 'worth the wait' person yourself. Some people have died waiting, and some died with the wrong blessing, which is which? The choice is yours.

The folly of not waiting for God is that we forfeit the blessing of having God work for us. The evil of not waiting on God is that we oppose God’s will to exalt Himself in mercy.- John Piper
